From sunny Southern California comes a new line of home cleaning products that you’re sure to love. Founder Patricia Spencer hitched her business wagon to CEO Michael Edell and together formed MaddieBrit Products / GrabGreen eco friendly home cleaning products with a total of 40 safe, effective and reasonably priced items in their line.

They offered to provide us with a few products for the purposes of a non-partial review:  Dish Soap, Automatic Dishwashing Detergent, Room & Fabric Freshener, 3-in-1 Laundry Detergent (cleans + removes stains + enhances softness) and Wet Dryer Cloths (softens clothes + reduces stain cling + chlorine free + biodegradable cloth + fragrance free) so we put them to the test.

I’m happy to report each product is a winner but two real standouts for me were the Automatic Dishwashing Detergent and Room & Fabric Freshener, (above) and here’s why.

In addition to thoroughly cleaning dishes, GrabGreen’s Automatic Dishwashing Detergent left my drinking glasses and silverware sparkling clean. Not just clean, but really sparkling (unlike many phosphate-free products). Amazing stuff. Aside from the all naturally-derived ingredients, (non-toxic, biodegradable formula, chlorine free, phosphate free) it’s fragrance free, and packaged in pre-measured concentrated powder pods. It’s available as: Fragrance Free, Tangerine with Lemongrass or Thyme with Fig Leaf, which are essential oil scented, (I’ve been using Fragrance Free).

Each zip-lock package contains 24 pods. After using up the freebee, I picked up a few packages at Fresh Market, (about $7 /each). It also comes in a 132-load size, which is available on for $42/per pkg. At about 30 cents per wash, it’s well worth it to me.

You’ll find full disclosure of all ingredients on the back of the package in a large font that’s actually readable. I also like how easy it is to use the Dishwashing Detergent – just pop in a pod, close the lid, and you’re good to go. No need to measure or use the pre-wash setting. As with their 3-in-1 Laundry Detergent pods, you can kiss good-bye those heavy jugs.

What intrigued me about the Room & Fabric Freshener is that you can use it to freshen your indoor air as well as curtains, sofas, clothes, linens, rugs and even car interiors. I tried Vetiver, although it’s available in all of their fragrance collections: thyme with fig leaf, immortelle with jasmine, tangerine with lemongrass, blossoms with rose petals, and lavender with vanilla. You know it’s a special product when your macho husband walks into the room and says, “it smells really good in here” which is what happened after I used it the first time. Now he’s hooked and uses it to freshen the air now and then…but don’t tell him I told you so.

As with all GrabGreen products, the Freshener is non-toxic, free of phosphates, and made with a biodegradable formula. Again, there’s full disclosure of all the naturall-derived ingredients in type big enough to read on the label. Vetiver fragrance contains essential oils: vetiver (grass), patchouli and black currant. ($9 on their website.)

You can grab some @ It’s also available at Whole Foods, Fresh Market,, Dorothy Lane Market, Lassens, Akin’s and Ralphs. Let us know what you think…
