Just got a press release on the Atlantic Sea Hawk, a solar hybrid cabin cruiser that utilizes a plug-in Sunpower solar array and Allison Hybrid system to produce what designer Richard Sauter calls, “the cleanest marine propulsion system in the world”. seahawk2.jpgThe craft, designed for Altantic Motor Yachts, harnesses the energy from its solar array and plug-in power sources to charge an Allison Nickel Metal Hydride storage system that give the vessel an estimated top speed of a zippy 50 knots.

The Sea Hawk’s hybrid systems are said to allow her to navigate harbors and inland waterways with zero emissions and its solar array is said to be capable of feeding 11Mwh’s of electricity to the power grid. Enough energy to offset up to 1,000 nautical miles of carbon neutral cruising every year.

The 18 meter craft will weigh-in at 22 tons and will be propelled by three Rolls Royce Kamewa FF water jets.
