Designer Kiely gets crafty with the fuel and CO2 efficient diesel-powered, Citroen DS3. The limited edition 500 cars feature an olive acorn pattern painted onto the exterior, and colored & hand-stitched headrests sport her signature flower pattern for the interior.

The zippy car is accessorized with matching acorn print carpet mats. Eco fashion hits the street on French-manufactured, four wheels….ooolala or oh too much?

Eco-minded car buyers have a lot to choose from on the lots in 2011. Whether you’re looking for an electric ride, a compact diesel, or a hybrid hauler, automakers are churning out alternative-fuel vehicles at a rapid rate, and just in time, as gas prices escalate to a current average of $3.05 per gallon. Yikes!
There’s only one downfall. Many of the federal tax credits touted in 2010 expired when the clock hit midnight on December 31st, leaving loads of car shoppers out in the cold… in fact, the 2010 list of tax credits applied toward a whopping 32 cars. Today, only three options remain. Can you guess which vehicles are included? The 2011 Chevrolet Volt, Nissan Leaf and 2010 Tesla Roadster are all privy to a $7,500 tax credit, according to car site Edmunds. But you can also check out your state’s initiatives by visiting the U.S. Dept. of Energy website.
If you’re stumped by the large selection of offerings, take a peek at this green car buyer’s guide, which I think provides a great at-a-glance overview of what’s available right now. But really, online research will never beat a face-to-face conversation. Next time you see a Volt or Leaf roll into the next parking spot, stop and ask the driver for their take. Odds are, they’re dying to dish on the latest technology highlights and flaws.

Award-winning Austalian architectural firm Andrew Maynard Architects was asked to design this portable pod-shelter to be used by the Volunteer Garden Ambassadors within the Royal Botanical Gardens, Melbourne.

The Bot Pod is constructed from framework of a recycled timber crate and features: a roof garden, wheels, recycled hardwood siding and 3 linked activity areas. It is designed to be towed throughout the gardens and quickly unfolded for volunteer and instructional use.

The project is designed: to enhance the onsite experience for visitors to the RBG Melbourne, showcase the Royal Botanic Gardens landscape, promote appreciation of good garden design, increase visitor understanding of challenges and opportunities for gardening in a dry climate and inspire positive action.

Tsunami Glassworks makes these art glass wall panels – they call them green wall panels – from reclaimed window glass, recycled glass shards and recycled wine bottles. Quite spectacular. These decorative panels can be arranged in variety of different configurations.

Each year, a list of 10 developing nations is published, honoring global hot spots that have been chosen as the most ethical destinations for travelers. The process, led by EthicalTraveler.org examines the roles of environmental protection, social welfare and human rights in each country—and considers the improvement in each over the past year.
In 2011, the list of must-visits spans the hemispheres, offering a destination for every type of traveler out there, whether you’re craving cool or tropical climates. Whichever you choose, you can rest assured that you’re supporting an economy in need of tourism dollars, which has the rules and regulations in place that will in turn, help to pass your money onto those who need it most.
So, who made the list for 2011? Check out the list below, in alphabetical order, where we’ve included handy links to the country’s tourism websites:
Argentina
Barbados
Chile
Costa Rica
Dominica
Latvia
Lithuania
Palau
Poland
Uruguay
Notably missing from this year’s round-up are Africa and Asia. Why so? Africa, due to its sever human rights violations. And Asia, for all of the economic development projects hanging in limbo, poor human rights record and lacking environmental policies.
