Just got a press release on the Atlantic Sea Hawk, a solar hybrid cabin cruiser that utilizes a plug-in Sunpower solar array and Allison Hybrid system to produce what designer Richard Sauter calls, “the cleanest marine propulsion system in the world”.
The craft, designed for Altantic Motor Yachts, harnesses the energy from its solar array and plug-in power sources to charge an Allison Nickel Metal Hydride storage system that give the vessel an estimated top speed of a zippy 50 knots.
The Sea Hawk’s hybrid systems are said to allow her to navigate harbors and inland waterways with zero emissions and its solar array is said to be capable of feeding 11Mwh’s of electricity to the power grid. Enough energy to offset up to 1,000 nautical miles of carbon neutral cruising every year.
The 18 meter craft will weigh-in at 22 tons and will be propelled by three Rolls Royce Kamewa FF water jets.

This week, several forces have joined together to launch WindMade, the first consumer label identifying corporations and products made with wind energy. According to a survey of more than 25,000 consumers, 92 percent of people believe that “renewable energy is a good solution to mitigating climate change,” and if presented with the option, most would prefer products made with wind energy–even if they cost more. To meet their profit margins, a vast majority of fashion companies do their manufacturing in the Far East, or in countries that have no minimum wage or other worker protections. It’s all about making money — with little or no regard for: planet Earth, those growing the raw materials and the folks stitching everything together.
However, Goodsociety, a green fashion company with a conscience, takes their eco fashion ethos to to whole other level – for every pair of jeans they sell, Goodsociety donates 25% of their profits to those in need.
The company sources their certified organic denim from approximately 1000 independent farmers in India. They not only teach sustainable farming practices that are pesticide- and fertilizer-free but also maintain a guaranteed purchase agreement with these farmers, providing financial opportunities for education, infrastructure, and local development. The COOKUP200 solar grill from the French company iD Cook, is a portable solar cooker that can be taken on the road and assembled in a few minutes – just add some sun and you’re ready to cook. No propane, toxic lighter fluid or messy charcoal needed. The whole deal folds-up into a handy little carrying case.
The solar grill requires a separate grill-safe dish such as a casserole dish, pan or griddle for cooking. Cast iron is recommended for optimum results. (more…)

Reclaimed wood saves living trees, keeps stuff out of the landfill and can often make something more beautiful and expressive than its original incarnation.
The wood used in this rustic Koper table is from reclaimed Douglas Fir wood beams collected from torn down buildings in Los Angeles. This ruggedly modern table has an optional top, and the missing bars give it a more open dimensionality. It utilizes the skeleton of old buildings in a new form.
Green tid-bit: to reduce waste they don’t create this table until you order it.

This is a guest post written on behalf of Netcars.co.uk – a used car search engine specializing in popular car brands including used Volkswagen, Ford, BMW, Mini, Audi and more.

With electric and hybrid vehicles taking more sales off the combustion engine every day, Volkswagen has finally decided to join the party with the Golf Blue-e-motion. While the name may be slightly suspect, the technology certainly won’t be. VW knows it has to contend with established electric vehicles like the Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Volt, and that is why the Bavarian brand is taking its time to make sure the Golf Blue-e-motion is ahead of the competition.
The plan is to bring an electric vehicle to the market in 2014 and while that may seem a while off yet, VW has announced (more…)

Cuz it’s the little things that make you who your are…These nifty little pieces of skateboard culture jewelry are the design of Dan and Nina K of the skateboard jewelry making outfit, All Deckd Out. Each handmade, unique tag is created from a reclaimed skateboard.

For a little extra change you can even have your tag laser engraved with your name or message - finished with a non-toxic glaze or left natural. All that and they’re only $10 @ all deckd out’s cargoh store.
Note: Just discovered cargoh.com when they followed us on Twitter (see social networking can work). Cargoh is a curated marketplace for DIY designers – think “a cooler Etsy.” The site is currently in beta, but open for business.
