National Audubon Society and Toyota team up to donate conservation grants

audubon2_1.jpg

Do you have a great concept for a great community-based conservation project but lack funding? TogetherGreen, a conservation alliance between the National Audubon Society and Toyota, is now accepting applications for its 2011 class of Fellows and Innovation Grantees.

40 promising individuals will be chosen to receive TogetherGreen Conservation Fellowships for: their demonstrated leadership, potential, skills, and commitment to engaging people of diverse backgrounds in conservation action.

Fellows receive a $10,000 grant to conduct a conservation action project in their community, as well as specialized training and support to help shape and implement their projects. They also become part of a dynamic alumni network of conservation professionals from across the country.

To apply for a 2011 TogetherGreen Fellowship, visit www.togethergreen.org/fellows. The site includes application guidelines, selection criteria, eligibility, benefits, and an online application.

OAT Shoes biodegrade upon kicking the bucket

oat_shoes.jpg

Pardon the pun, but these new kicks know where to go once they’ve kicked the bucket — six feet under. They’re made from a combination of natural materials and biodegradable plastics, and they’re designed to be planted once they’ve reached the end of their life. Sure to appeal to the Cradle to Cradle crowd…and farmers.

Word is, Amsterdam-based OAT Shoes plans to distribute their new line beginning this March, initially throughout Europe only. A USA launch will hopefully follow, no promises on when, but hopefully sometime next year.

(photos above) Having just coveted the Second Place Prize at the Green Fashion Awards during last month’s Amsterdam International Fashion Week, rest assured we’ll keep our ear to the ground regarding any news in the coming months.

OAT’s Virgin Collection will be comprised of 6 casual styles – of sneaks – not undies:)
