recycled Newcastle Ale beer bottle cap trivet

04_Newcastle_Bottle_Cap_Trivet_05.jpg

Beer lover alert: Zipper 8 Designs makes these colorful epoxy coasters from the discarded remains of some hard drinking. The perfect bar or kitchen accessory for those individuals who, like me, are obsessed with the silky brown deliciousness of Newcastle Brown Ale. This trivet/cutting board would also make a nice addition to a basement man-cave, sports bar, rathskeller or breweriana collection.

$25 @ Zipper 8′s Cargoh store – Z8 also makes nice recycled beer cap coasters. (see below)

wembe: a tried and true green product review

wembe_assai_soap.jpg

For the purposes of this Tried and True Review, I received a bar of Wembés Assai Berry Antioxidant Blend. After soaping-up for a few weeks, what’s the word? This organic soap is dope.

The color purple and rough-hewn appearance of Assai Berry Blend are deceiving. This soap feels and acts like a luxurious beauty bar when I rub a dub dub in the tub. It has a lovely scent – an exotic fragrance all its own. And a luxurious texture when wet … it goes on smoothly and leaves my body feeling clean, silky and surprisingly moisturized.

Containing powerful antioxidant properties, Acai (or assai) is the fruit of a palm that grows in the Amazon Rain Forest … in combination with Mango and Jojoba Oil, they form the basis of Assai Berry Antioxidant Blend – designed for mature and damaged skin. You can see chunks of plants and herbs in this naturally blended bar … nothing artificial or toxic is used in its creation. (more…)

Poynt app: use that smartphone to get rid of that tree-killing phone book

poynt1.jpg

It’s time to stop getting delivery of that tree-killing phone book.

Every year hundreds of millions of Yellow Pages are printed and shipped to consumers who may never use them. If you’re one of those people using the Yellow Pages as a plant stand or door stop, and you own a smartphone, there is a better solution – Poynt, a free app for iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone 7 and Nokia smartphones offers you the power of the Yellow Pages, White pages and local search in one intuitive application.

Poynt puts info about local businesses, restaurants, movie theaters, local events, weather and gas prices right on your phone – and GPS and WiFi capabilities mean that you don’t even have to enter your search location. Poynt also gives users the ability to make restaurant reservations, check out movie previews and purchase movie tickets. Using Poynt can save thousands of trees and cut down on the emissions created by you driving around looking for a multiplex or nail salon.

The folks at the Yellow Pages are aware that they’re losing this battle … they’re making it easier than ever to opt out of receiving a phone book as well as make their data available digitally.

Tip – to stop having the Yellow Pages Directory delivered to your home, go to www.YellowPagesOptOut.com.
