If variety is the spice of life, what is a variety of spices? We’re about to find out…
We recently received a goody bag of spices from Teeny Tiny Spice Company to test and it’s brought us to our happy place. They’re freakin’ amazing. They smell great, and if you’ve lost your desire to cook – they make cooking feel new and fun again.
Each pungent mix has its own unique scent — from earthy or hot — to floral, citrus or clean. Standing in my kitchen, the aromas transport me to faraway places, I sometimes feel like I’m at a bazaar in a foreign country … no passport required.
The timing couldn’t have been better, as I’ve just changed my diet to mostly vegan fare for at least the month of April … these exotics are helping to transform each dish into something extraordinary. When we add just a little of this or that, it makes a big difference in flavor.
The hub and I take turns preparing meals; here’s some of what we’ve had so far:
- Montreal Seasoning on steak (he’s not going vegan)
- Penang Curry in aloo gobi (cauliflower with peas, potato and tomato)
- Perfection Spice Rub with tofu
- Garam Masala with lamb
- Ras el Hanout with rice
- Ethiopian Berbere on Bell & Evans chicken liver
- Shepherd Herb Mix in a mixed veggie soup, (a variation of potato leek)
backstory – Teeny Tiny Spice Co. of Vermont is a small, family run operation that specializes in creating 100% organic spice blends that deliver some of the freshest spices and herbs from all over the world.
Their authentic mixtures are made in small batches and ground just before packaging to insure freshness. As the owners tell us, “When blends include salt or sugar, we use Himalayan Pink Salt and organic Vermont Maple Sugar. All of our ingredients for each blend are listed, so you know exactly what you are getting.”
