Steam Whistle Brewing, arguably Canada’s greenest brewery (and clever green marketer) has created a new symbol of their environmental commitment -  a custom-built, all -electric, earth-friendly vintage ride  The truck, which is called, RETRO ELECTRO, began life as a 1958 Chevy Apache Pickup 1/2 ton short box with side step.

The pick-up is now retrofitted with a high-efficiency AC motor capable of generating 465 foot-pounds of torque power on par with many gas-guzzling muscle cars … the catch — this stylish ride is emissions-free – fueled by 100% BC wind power supplied by local wind energy provider, Bullfrog Power. The truck won’t be some pampered show car for the brewery, but will productively function as a beer-hauling workhorse and daily ride for Steam Whistle’s resident manager, Mike Kiraly, the brains behind the Retro Electro project.

Some of Steam Whistle’s other eco endeavors include:

  • their four ingredient brew is all-natural and GMO-free
  • the company’s green Pilsner bottle can be reused up to 45 times
  • their logo is painted (doesn’t require paper/trees), and contains no harmful dyes or adhesives
  • every waste element from their packaging process is recycled, and organic waste is composted
  • the brewery is powered by renewable wind & hydro power
  • the company’s delivery truck fleet runs on bio-fuel
  • spent grain from the brewing process is distributed to local farmers as livestock feed.

We’ll drink to that.
