This designer cargo container, prefab hybrid house is the creation of Architect Walter Scott Perry and his ecotechdesign and ecotechbuild teams. The group created the residence as the prototype of their hybrid house design.
The home was created for a media client who required a separate living space, photo studio and storage building. The studio is constructed of a Butler pre-engineered steel building. The cargo container residence and steel studio structure bookend the home’s steel frame.

The home, which is the first repurposed container home permitted and built in the Mojave Desert, is inspired by the design and execution of the fuel-efficient Prius automobile. The home utilizes an array of energy conservation features to maximize efficiency and cost savings, while offering architectural design flexibility and a fresh take on hybrid and prefab home design.

The 1-bedroom, 1-1/2 bath, 2-story home is constructed from five, 20′ long, recycled cargo containers that were fabricated and finished in Los Angeles, shipped to the site, erected and stacked 2-high in 15 minutes each.

details:
Recycled Steel Construction: featuring (6) repurposed ISO cargo containers, a Butler pre-engineered building, a 10,000 gal. water storage tank, a solar shade canopy and a steel framing system that provides extraordinary strength and earthquake, fire & wind protection.
Solar Home Shading System: a bolt-on, adjustable steel frame and perforated metal shading
system creates a 50% reduction in the effects of solar heat, glare and wind on the building.
Living Roof System: movable, bolt and add-on modules use greywater irrigation and are planted with native desert plants and sedums to absorb heat, glare, dust and CO2.
Water Conservation: an integrated greywater system is used for irrigation, water harvesting and storage.
Energy Conservation: an innovative steel framework, “cool roof” and triple wall insulation create a building envelope that exceeds California energy code requirements by 50%.
Reduced Costs: Finished construction costs, including footings and sitework was $150./SF, far exceeding construction costs for comparable pre-fab or manufactured home construction.

Wow, I am truly impressed! Thanks for your design
and practicality. How that would be a great idea,
for people who never saw a chance to get into something better, warm, dry and most of all beautiful. Thank you
Beautiful work to integrate the roof garden, recycled containers, water storage and great design. Very well done. I’m looking forward to your other work.
