What a great idea: The Light Catcher is a 2011 iF Cesign Concept Entry that turns the power of the sun into a reuseable AA or AAA battery.

It’s a simple photoelectric battery surrounded by non-reflective plastic and small solar cells. When the charge dies, just give it a dose of some sweet sunlight and it’s good to go in a matter of hours. A 3.5mm jack attaches to one end and can be used to charge a small device, making it perfect for camping or traveling.
This innovative and intuitive design means that less batteries will need to be produced, and less of their harmful and corrosive contents will make their
way into our soil and water tables. I’m sure this new take on an old standard will be a big hit once it hits the market.

I’ve been looking at these small solar recharge units for camping this summer. It’d be great for my overused headlamp.
