Furniture designer Tod Von Mertens runs his small design-build firm out of his New Hampshire studio. His handcrafted, striking work is primarily created from either salvaged or sustainably harvested, locally sourced wood.

His steel casings and frames are made with steel that contains a very high percentage of recycled content; he finishes each piece with a proprietary process that reacts with the mineral composition of the wood, dramatically changing the color and grain definition without applied tints.

The furnishings are finished with an extremely low VOC waterborne finish and polished by hand to a silky, smooth luster. The few steel scraps created in his creative process go back into the recycling bin to be utilized in future works.

To many straight lines to square and a bit dull in my opinion
