The highly anticipated Pixar film, Cars 2, finally opened this weekend. The movie did 68 million dollars at the box office by the end of its opening weekend. However, this sequel isn’t just about cars this time around; it’s also about the negative impacts of big bad oil companies.

In the story, Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) and his tow truck friend, Mater (voiced by Larry the Cable Guy), head to the World Grand Prix to compete for the world’s fastest car title. The organizer of the Grand Prix fuels the vehicles with an alternative fuel called Allinol, pitting gas-guzzling vintage cars and SUVs against the new alternative and hybrid vehicles. The rest of the movie unfolds as Lightning McQueen participates in races in Tokyo, Italy and London, while Mater finds his way into the center of a plot involving an oily cartel of vintage looking cars looking to put an end to earth-friendly Allinol. Cars 2 continues the tradition of exploring environmentally friendly themes similar to other Pixar movies like Toy Story 3, WALL-E and Monsters Inc.

Let’s not forget that this movie is also about fun! Take the whole family to Cars 2 for great 3D visuals, quality storylines and an environmentally friendly message that kids of all ages can identify with.
