Arm candy doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg, or harm the planet. Here’s a tasty roundup of four styles of bangles for the eco fashionista in you.
(above) For trendsetters – This California-based artist, Squishy Sushi, makes a number of different Upcycled Magazine Bracelets. She makes them in 7 different colors. The base is sustainable wood. They are made water safe, not necessarily swimming or showers. Each piece is one of a kind. She also makes attractive bracelets out of black and white Japanese magazines and origami paper. For naturalists – These bangles are made from organic grade A Mango trees that are past the fruit-bearing stage. They come in four sizes, three styles and 50 different colors. They are all hand carved and hand painted so no two are exactly the same. Mix and match or wear them alone. Mango Tree Bangles are a great addition to any eco-wardrobe. Large $22, slim $18
For minimalists – Alex and Ani designs expandable, thin metal bangles and bangle sets made of recycled metal. They are made here in the US and come in more versions than I can count – I took to the seaside series with charms for beach attire. My favorite feature is the little recycled charm attached to the bracelet. $28

(above) For the passionate – Julia Failey named this piece The Tiger Aims High and intends for the bracelet to remind those who wear it to aim high and pursue goals with passion and fearlessness, as the tiger does. The bangles are made of reclaimed silver with honeysuckle inlay and gold vermeil. $145
