full disclosure: the products mentioned in this Tried and True Green Product Review were provided to us free of charge, for the purposes of this no-holds-barred review. Here’s what we think: if you’re looking for a little bliss, put Aura Cacia on your must-try list.
As we all know, home is where the heart (and soul) are … so why not soothe all our senses in our home? In addition to surrounding ourselves with plants, colors and objects that support our overall well-being, another way to counterbalance all the demands we face at work or on the home-front is to treat ourselves to a well-deserved dose of aromatherapy – in the bath, on our bodies or around our living space.
When I recently received a sweet package of goodies from Aura Cacia, a brand I’ve been using for years, and couldn’t wait to dive-in.
- The first item I tried was the Aromatherapy Room Diffuser ($14.99). Easy to use and re-use, you simply place about 12 drops of essential oil onto a refill pad, insert the pad (shiny side down & fuzzy side up) into the diffuser and plug the little unit into an outlet. Over the past few weeks I’ve really enjoyed using it with different essential oils in the bedroom, bathroom, office and living room. I especially liked using the diffuser with a few drops of Ylang Ylang essential oil in my living room. We had a few people over the other night and everyone loved the light scent. Even Debbie Downer (Theresa) was unusually upbeat and frankly, everyone attributed it to the aromatherapy. Even she admitted she was amazed by her personal transformation.
Tip: if there are any cranky pants in your office – plug this in near their desk and see how it goes. It does need refilling often but it’s so easy to do, don’t let that stop you.
Note: The oil will dry when it’s heated and the scent will be fully dispersed into the air. If left running all day, the oil will need to be reapplied every day. The diffuser comes with 5 reusable pads but additional packets of pads are available for purchase as well.
- Another item I love using is Chill Pill - a mister that works instantly to calm and comfort; ($7.99, 2 oz). Having a heated conversation with your kids, mom or mate? Need a chill pill? Just grab, shake and spray. I’m not kidding, this little diffuser is powerful. Mist the air around you and this unique blend of lavender, citrus and patchouli will instantly diffuse the situation. Bonus cool points – you can reuse the bottle and mix your own concoction for extended play.
- After goofing around with my 9-year old nephew on the tennis court the other day I was in need of relief from some minor physical aches, so I figured I’d take a quick soak. I halfway filled (to be eco conscious) the tub and emptied in a little packet of Euphoric Ylang Ylang Mineral Bath ($3.29). The soak felt great and served as a much-needed quick fix. I’d say these 2.5 ounce packets would travel well, too. I could see treating feet to a treatment after a day of sight-seeing in an exciting city or hiking the Outback. (I know, I’m dreaming.)
- If you’re looking for a totally indulgent bath experience, I’d recommend the Sensual Cinnamon & Ylang Ylang Foam Bath. I wasn’t expecting anything super sensational but this blend of botanical and oils – cinnamon, ylang ylang and jojoba – really surprised me. I didn’t want to get out of the tub, I must have been in there for 30 minutes, it was so relaxing. To top things off, I applied Euphoric Ylang Ylang Body Oil all over the bod. The blend includes Bergamot and Ginger oils, grape seed and sweet almond oils as well as Vitamin E – the perfect antidote to skin exposed to Florida’s hot summer sun.
So that wraps up another Tried and True Review. I hope you’ll treat yourself to some tender loving care in the form of aromatherapy, it’s a simply way to stay cool, calm and collected. Breathe and feel balanced. You can find all these products above via auracacia.com. We give the company high marks for their all-important sustainability efforts, too.
