Have you ever been forced to follow an all-liquid diet? Had the need to omit all solid food choices due to some health issue? I recently fainted due to dehydration and fractured my jaw in 2 places. So I had surgery and now my mouth is in lock-down for the next several weeks, (not fun, but it could have been worse.)

Green_Drink.jpgMy ever-thoughtful sis gave me a copy of The Healthy Green Drink Diet, by, Jason Manheim. For the past few days, I’ve been enjoying the many delicious recipes and helpful tips recommended in this well designed book as I blend and juice my way back to good health. Since I also follow the Eat Right According to Your Blood Type diet, I simply cross-reference which recommended foods overlap and stay focused on those.

Favorite part? Included is a breakdown of popular greens – chard, kale, spinach, lettuce, and various herbs – and a table that lists the major nutrient content (protein, fiber, calcium + vitamins and minerals) contained in a 2 cup raw serving; it’s a great way to help me track my daily intake of nutrients.

Prior to this jaw-breaking incident, I had been juicing for lunch for about the past year or so. My typical concoctions were tasty but pretty straightforward — comprised of some of the basics like: kale, spinach, cinnamon, coconut oil, lemon, berries, pineapple, almond milk, water and vanilla-flavored raw protein powder.

But now I’ve kicked it up a notch by adding ingredients like: almond butter, avocado, dates, figs, pears, grapes, grapefruit, melon, frozen cranberries, beets, carrot, parsley, oregano, ginger and raw cocoa nibs. They’ve made a big difference, are nutritious and refreshing, and a welcome change of pace. The most challenging part is making sure my drink isn’t too thick – those prison-like wires guarding my jaw are intolerant of smoothie-like textures.

Since I’ll be on this “raw” liquid diet for the next 5 or 6 weeks, I’m so grateful to have received this beautiful gift.
