I was just informed that February 10th is National Umbrella Day. This must be a celebration spawned out of necessity from some rain-swept habitat like Seattle, or perhaps it’s just a marketing idea from some umbrella industry PR rep, be that as it may, we thought it a fine excuse to feature this unique cork umbrella from the Portuguese company Pelcor.
In addition to cork bumbershoots, Pelcor creates all manner of handbags, belts, shoes and accessories from renewable, recyclable cork (the company still makes its original product – champagne corks). The cork material used in most of Pelcor’s products is a vegetal fabric extracted from the cork oak tree that thrives in the Mediterranean region.
This durable umbrella could last a lifetime – another sustainable feature – and will cost you around $195 at PelcorUSA.com
