full disclosure: We were graciously provided a JORD Fieldcrest watch for the purposes of this Tried and True Green Product Review.
You’d think that a wooden watch might be something you’d find at an antiques auction, hand-carved out of a backyard elm tree by someone’s great grandfather – well you’d be mistaken … JORD is now making contemporary, designer watches from sustainably-sourced wood – the company creates wooden watches in a variety of styles from sustainable woods including: cherry, maple, sandalwood, blackwood and teak.
I was provided with a timepiece from the Fieldcrest Series in natural green (above). The watch is surprisingly light – much lighter than most of my watches made from traditional materials. I particularly like the watch’s clasp and closure, it’s well-designed, easy to use and doesn’t open unexpectedly.
Some details: It has a hardened scratch-proof face, a Citizen Miyota movement and a easy to close clasp. The Fieldcreast series comes in a variety of woods and finishes retailing for $120.
Pictured below are a couple of additional JORD styles.
Remember these watches are made out of eye-catching wood – they’re not waterproof, but they are splash proof. I’ve worn the watch only a couple of times and I’ve already gotten several compliments – and questions. People are particularly astonished at how lightweight the watch is.
