Solar panels that you can drive, park, and walk on – that melt snow and cut greenhouse gases – the design and implementation of this clean energy technology is underway and you can become a part of its installation and production. These new Solar Road panels are the brainchild of Julie and Scott Brusaw and their company, Solar Roadways. The panels can be installed on literally any surface and pay for themselves through generating clean electricity. These panels also have other features such as heating elements to stay snow and ice free, LEDs to make road lines visible, and attached “Cable Corridor to store and treat storm water.”
Solar Roadways has already received two phases of funding from the U.S. Federal Highway Administration for research and development and the technology has been tested for traction, weight, and impact resistance. The panels and company have received several awards and the project looks promising in tackling both solar energy and the problems associated with storm water.
