Although there is no miracle cure that can completely stop aging from taking a toll on you, there still are some natural superfoods that can help you age gracefully, and look and feel youthful inside out. While you may not be able to be your sweet sixteen again, being proactive about anti-aging can definitely help you cut down one or two decades from your actual age.

Listed below are top 9 great superfoods that are marveled for their anti-aging properties:
1.  Blueberries – Any food rich in antioxidants is your best bet when it comes to anti-aging endeavors. They rebuild the damaged body cells and postpones the aging process. Blueberries enjoy the reputation of being the most antioxidant-rich food on Earth.

2.  Orange Juice – Kick-start your day with a glass of orange juice to reap the benefits of vitamin C, body beta, and other such elements of anti-aging contained in orange juice. It also serves as a great energy booster.

3.  Fish – A rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, fresh salmon is especially loaded with benefits for adults who wish to stay mentally quick with age.

Zen and the Art of Sleeping

This post is contributed by MemoryFoam, a leader in eco-friendly natural mattresses and memory foam.

Life is about balance. Certainly Zen is about balance. Environmental and “green” issues are also about balance.  We must be part of the planet, working with natural resources instead of just consuming them.

Sleep is essential for health, but the products we select are also essential for the survival of the natural resources of the planet.

There is a responsibility in the selections we make, the products we buy and the process that creates them; all must be in tune with what is good for today and for tomorrow.

There has been much written on the importance of sustainability and environmentally friendly manufacturing and products. It’s easy to be caught up in the hype, buying things because they are trendy and seem “green”.

It is important to know the company manufacturing and selling your products. We must ask: what is their commitment to the planet, and how does their manufacturing process contribute to that commitment?

Mattresses are a great example. There is much muss and fuss over which type or style mattress to buy. (more…)

power of positive thinking – pass it on

gulf_disaster_2010.jpg

With the mess and loss caused by Hurricane Irene, it makes me grateful for all that I have: shelter, food, clothes, water, power, health and love — things that should not be taken for granted. As a friend reminded me, it’s times like these that we need to call upon the power of positive thinking to help us get through the muck. Let’s remember what we have, not what we don’t have – in good times and bad. We’re all connected – it’s yes we can time. Reach out to someone in need – feel your power and put it to good use. Here’s to a beautiful day, full of hope and promise.

natural beauty essentials for fall – a review

I recently received several complimentary eco beauty products from Spirit Beauty Lounge for the purposes of this Tried and True Green Products Review. This trial was a real treat. Here’s the scoop…

Spriit_Beauty_Lounge.jpg

backstory – Spirit Demerson, organic beauty expert and founder of Spirit Beauty Lounge, (the only carbon-neutral online boutique specializing in luxury green, organic and cruelty-free beauty and lifestyle products), recently selected a Top 10 list of Natural Beauty Essentials for Fall/Winter 2011. A treasure trove of body-friendly goodies – here’s what we tried:

  • Hydrea London Carbonized Bamboo Exfoliating Gloves – These are very cool. I’m a big proponent of exfoliating (year-round), and I usually do so by using a dry body brush. It was nice to be able to slough away dry flakes with an actual pair of gloves – made of bamboo fibers, no less. But their uniqueness goes even further. (more…)

andrea – natural, plant-based air purifier

andreairfilter.jpg

Plants are Mother Nature’s super-efficient air filtration system. The ANDREA system utilizes award-winning technology to accelerate a plant’s already potent capacity to remove airborne toxins from the air. The gadget employs active plant filtration in concert with layers of water and soil to provide a multistage system that cleanses indoor air of harmful toxins that can irritate and be harmful to your lungs.

It naturally purifies air by drawing it in and propelling it through the leaves and root system of a plant, then out through water and soil filtration and back into the room environment.  (more…)

TOXIC FREE, by Debra Lynn Dadd – a book review

Debra_Lynn_Dadd.jpg

A long-time fan of author and consumer advocate for green & clean living, Debra Lynn Dadd, I was quite happy to receive a review copy of her latest paperback, TOXIC FREE: How to Protect Your Health and Home from the Chemicals that Are Making You Sick, published by Tarcher/Penguin of the Penguin Group, 2011. ($15.95).

I first discovered Dadd several years ago via her website, debraslist.com and was struck by her practical, down-to-earth advice. When The New York Times crowned her the Queen of Green, we cheered. After reading TOXIC FREE, we’re still cheering.

backstory – In 1978, while in her early twenties, Dadd was diagnosed with MCS (multiple chemical disorder). In search of information, but without much readily available, Dadd’s quest led to a lifelong journey to discover how to live a toxic free lifestyle. Piecing together research on chemicals in everyday products and how they affect our bodies, she quickly realized how the interplay of what’s around us — what we eat, what we put on our bodies and what’s in the environment — all affects our overall health.  (more…)

toeSox for healthy feet – a review

Here’s a Tried and True Review for anyone who loves shoes and their feet … We received 2 complimentary ToeSox products: a pair of Ultra Sport ankle sox and Five Toe Sandals – they’re designed to help strengthen feet. Gimmick? I think not…

Toes and feet are sexy. Did you know that each foot contains approximately:  26 bones, 20 muscles, 33 joints and 100 ligaments? Keep them in tip-top condition. I stretch the space between my little toes during my yoga practice. It’s challenging. Anyone with squishy toe syndrome (my terminology), probably knows what I mean. So for extra conditioning when off the mat … enter ToeSox.

Having sampled some of their hand-made teas previously, (December, 2010) I was no stranger to the Indie Tea scene. Each tea is a unique blend of certified organic ingredients – packed with tasty exotic flavors … now you may slip to far away places with each sip … or soak. (more…)

a stylish bamboo water bottle

bambooExplode.jpg

Over the past few years many environmentalists and earth-conscious consumers have started using reusable water bottles to do their part in reducing the number of plastic bottles in the wastestream and floating around our oceans. While this effort does help reduce waste, many of these reusable bottles are made of either plastic or stainless steel, two materials that create both a carbon and chemical footprint in their manufacture.
